While receiving representatives from Guangzhou, Central Sulawesi Governor Rusdy Mastura said that investment in the region can drive the economic wheels and increase local income.
"The presence of investment can absorb labor and has an impact on micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and other related sectors," he added.
During the meeting, Mastura welcomed the potential cooperation with Guangzhou through the Development Research Institute.
The cooperation has been proposed to realize a more prosperous and advanced Central Sulawesi.
Earlier, during the National Agricultural Extension Workers Jamboree in Sigi district, Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman said that Central Sulawesi's lands are suitable for planting a variety of horticulture crops such as durian, grapes, and jackfruit.
According to Mastura, the central government has asked the province to plant durians on a massive scale.
"Central Sulawesi province also received a duty from the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment to plant durians in an area of three thousand hectares," he informed.
Therefore, the provincial government is interested in Guangzhou's offer of cooperation in developing the area, with the hope of providing benefits to both parties, he said.
Meanwhile, Guangzhou representative Zhao Yan said that the purpose of the visit was to introduce himself. He offered cooperation tailored to the potential and needs of the region.
Earlier, the provincial government informed that the realization of investment in Central Sulawesi in 2023 topped Rp83 trillion, or US$5.2 billion.
Given the achievement, Central Sulawesi contributed greatly to the national economy and development.
