Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) has praised the consistency of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in supporting counterterrorism efforts in Indonesia.

"We appreciate UNODC's consistency in providing support to Indonesia in preventing and tackling violent extremism and terrorism in the country," BNPT head Mohammed Rycko Amelza Dahniel said in a statement issued by the agency here on Friday.

In Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday (March 27), he received a courtesy visit from a UNODC representative. During the meeting, he said that UNODC's support, such as knowledge sharing and strategy building, has played an important role in countering terrorism.

"The collaboration and support from UNODC, which includes sharing knowledge, resources, expertise, and effective strategies, has been significant in our shared mission to prevent and counter terrorism," he added.

Meanwhile, UNODC Regional Representative for Southeast Asia and the Pacific, Masood Karimipour, said that his side was honored to be involved in countering terrorism in Indonesia in collaboration with BNPT.

"UNODC is honored to be involved in countering terrorism in Indonesia with BNPT, which is led by Mr. Dahniel. Mr. Dahniel has a vision to create a safer and more peaceful Indonesia," he stated.

He reaffirmed UNODC's commitment to continue collaborating with BNPT, especially in carrying out one of this year's priority programs, namely the empowerment of women, children, and adolescents.

"We are here to support the empowerment of the youth and women and help build public resilience," he said.

BNPT and UNODC have collaborated on several programs, such as the STRIVE Juvenile project, which focuses on strengthening the capacity of practitioners in children's rehabilitation and reintegration.

Their other collaborations include support for the national action plan for preventing and countering violent extremism that leads to terrorism (NAP-PE) and exercises to strengthen quick response to chemical terrorism.
