Depok (ANTARA) - University of Indonesia (UI) collaborates with the Pohang Iron and Steel Company (Posco) Group and Pohang University of Science and Technology (Postech), South Korea, to develop the technology industry and human resource management.

Discussion of the potential for cooperation was carried out during the visit of Donghyun Ko, the Industry, Academy, and Research Manager of Posco Holdings, to the UI Campus in Depok.

Head of the International Affairs Office of UI, Baiduri Widanarko, stated in Depok, Thursday, that the cooperation to be established in future was certainly in the context of building a better future for education and industry in Indonesia and South Korea.

Posco is the world's fourth-largest steel producer, headquartered in Pohang, South Korea.

UI Research and Development Director, Munawar Khalil, stated that in general, UI has two major responsibilities in the research field: managing research activities internally within the university and facilitating research collaboration, both nationally and internationally.

Hence, to this end, research collaboration for industrial research needs is most likely to be carried out.

Meanwhile, Donghyun Ko remarked that Posco needs cooperation to support the research activities of Postech, which is a private university that focuses on the fields of science and engineering.

"Indonesia is a very important partner, and we see great potential for collaborating with the University of Indonesia," he remarked.

"Through this partnership, we hope to make a bigger contribution to industrial development in Indonesia, especially in terms of technology and human resource management," he added.

The collaboration between UI, Posco, and Postech in research and development of innovation in the industrial sector aims to respond to the challenges and opportunities in facing the Industry 4.0 era.
