Jakarta (ANTARA) - Acting Governor of Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono reminded the public on Friday to ensure the security of their houses during the upcoming Eid homecoming exodus.

"You must ensure the house you leave is safe,” he remarked while releasing Eid travelers participating in the "2024 Fun Homecoming Program with the State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs)" in Jakarta.

He suggested that travelers entrust the safety of their houses to the village heads and other security officials.

"There are local Public Security and Order Agency (Satpol PP) and sub-district police who can protect the surroundings left by residents during the exodus," he noted.

Hartono also bid farewell to the travelers and reminded them to stay healthy during the trip.

"Hopefully, you safely arrive at your respective hometowns," he stated.

Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir, who was also present at Friday's event, saw off 6,432 travelers participating in the program, saying it was part of SOEs' efforts to help the community, especially the underprivileged, keen on going home safely and comfortably during the Eid holidays.

This program was also the government’s effort to reduce the number of travelers utilizing two-wheeled motor vehicles, he added.

He cited data indicating that the highest number of accidents occur among travelers going home with motorcycles, which accounted for 77 percent of the total accidents during the Eid exodus.
