During a press conference here on Friday, Director General of Waste, Garbage, and Hazardous Toxic Material Management Rosa Vivien Ratnawati stated that her ministry has anticipated the potential increase in waste generation by issuing a circular on Eid al-Fitr waste control.
“In the circular, we appealed (to regional governments) to create a special task force regarding waste management, and we ask them to report the work of the task force and waste collection,” she remarked.
She called on regional governments to report the volume of waste generated during the Eid exodus and the return period that is managed and ends up in landfills in their respective regions.

The Ministry of Environment and Forestry has projected potential waste generation of 58 million kilograms during the 2024 Eid al-Fitr exodus and return period, with around 193.6 million people participating in the exodus based on the Ministry of Transportation's estimate.
Ratnawati underscored that her ministry will coordinate with the regional governments across the country regarding the potential of waste generation during the Eid al-Fitr exodus and return period.
“They must be aware that their region will be flooded with visitors, and of course, there will be more waste in the region,” she underscored.
To this end, the task force is urged to ensure the availability of waste segregation bins and deploy officers to stand by to pick up and sort waste at public facilities.
