The ministry's Director of Shipping and Maritime Affairs, Hartanto, remarked that one Indonesian crew member of the tanker, Asep Saepudin Juhri, remains missing, and the Japan Coast Guard is still searching for him.
Hartanto underscored that his ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continue to intensively coordinate to find the victim.
The six Indonesians died after the South Korean-flagged Keoyoung Sun tanker overturned in Japan’s waters on March 20 with 11 crew members on board, comprising eight Indonesians, two South Koreans, and one Chinese national.
Meanwhile, one of the eight Indonesians, namely Ryan Yudatama Lizar, was found safe.
"We express our deepest condolences to the families and relatives left behind. Hopefully, the families will be given the fortitude to face this ordeal, and hopefully, the other victim can be found soon," Hartanto remarked.
Head of Sub-Directorate for Other Regions outside the Southeast Asia and Middle East Regions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tony Wibawa stated that his ministry and the Transportation Ministry will also oversee the fulfillment of the victims’ rights.
“It includes the handover of insurance (benefits) and compensation for the victims,” Wibawa stated.
