Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Tuesday invited orphans to buy new clothes at a mall in Central Jakarta to celebrate Eid al-Fitr expected on Wednesday (April 10).

The president arrived with some 40 orphans and their companions at the Atrium Senen Mall at 4 p.m. Jakarta time and promptly took the orphans to a department store in the mall.

At the department store, Jokowi, dressed in a white shirt, invited the orphans to buy clothes of their choice. Some store employees assisted the orphans in selecting their new clothes.

The president calmly waited for the orphans to buy their new clothes at the side of the department store. Some store employees took the opportunity to have selfies with the president, for which he gladly obliged.

Jokowi also asked some orphans whether they had found the clothes they liked at the department store.

"Have you got your clothes? You have your white shirt already," the president told some orphans.

The president then waited for the orphans queueing up for their clothes at the department store cashiers. The orphans happily greeted the president after getting their new clothes.

After visiting the department store, Jokowi took the orphans to a supermarket to buy foods and beverages of their liking.

According to the information obtained by ANTARA, the 40 orphans belong to Muslimin Orphanage in Kramat and Aisyiyah Orphanage in Menteng, both in Central Jakarta.

On Monday (April 8), the president, through the Presidential Secretariat, organized the distribution of around one thousand essential commodity packages to the community in front of Merdeka Palace.

Jokowi witnessed the distribution of the aid — which took place at around 4:30 p.m. Jakarta time — for about 10 minutes.

Among the recipients of the packages were online motorcycle taxi drivers and Jakarta utility personnel who happened to work close to the palace.

The president will also host an open house on the day of Eid al-Fitr at the Presidential Palace, which will be open to the public.
