"People can also get reunited regardless of their different political choices in elections,"
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Home Minister Tito Karnavian stated that Eid al-Fitr celebrated nationwide on Wednesday hopefully became a momentum for all Indonesians to get reunited and move forward, as the 2024 General Elections had ended.

"Happy Eid Mubarak. Insya Allah (God willing), Eid al-Fitr will bring us happiness and a better, calmer, and more peaceful situation as the parliamentary and presidential elections had been over," he remarked.

Speaking to journalists after joining an Eid mass prayer at the Istiqlal Grand Mosque here, Wednesday morning, the minister noted that the people currently await the Constitutional Court's (MK's) final ruling.

Karnavian further spoke of having urged all regional leaders across the country to keep the situation in their respective administrative regions conducive during and after the post-election period.

"People can also get reunited regardless of their different political choices in elections," he added.

MK has been handling the presidential election result disputes, filed by candidate pairs Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD against the General Elections Commission (KPU), since March 25.

The court is scheduled to resolve the result disputes within 14 working days since the camps of the two candidate pairs registered the disputes.

The long wait for the results of the 2024 presidential elections ended with an official announcement from KPU Chairperson Hasyim Asy'ari in Jakarta on Wednesday evening, March 20.

Accompanied by other KPU commissioners, he declared Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka as winners of the presidential race, with 96,214,691 of 164,227,475 national valid votes.

Rival candidate pairs — Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md — secured 40,971,906 and 27,040,878 valid votes, respectively.

In response to the KPU's official election result announcement, President-elect Prabowo Subianto delivered his victory speech in which he promised to steer all citizens on the path to prosperity.

Elected president/vice president for the 2024–2029 leadership term will be officially sworn in on October 20.
