Jakarta (ANTARA) - The bodies of 11 victims of a recent accident on the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road and the body parts of another victim were taken to the National Police (Polri) Hospital in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, on Wednesday.

They were earlier kept at Karawang District Hospital.

"On Wednesday, we transported the bodies of victims of the toll road accident to the National Police Hospital in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta," head of the public information bureau of the police's public relations division, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, informed.

The transfer of the 11 bodies was for identification purposes as well as providing the best services to the victims' families in retrieving the bodies, he added.

He said that the National Police's Health Center Team helped handle the bodies during the transfer, including in the identification process. The West Java Regional Police Department of Health also provided assistance, he added.

Of the 12 deceased victims, the body of one Najwa Devira was identified and taken by the family.

"On Tuesday, one body was returned to Bogor with the family served by a corpse ambulance from the West Java provincial government and escorted by the National Police," Andiko informed.

On a separate occasion, head of the National Police Hospital, Brigadier General Hariyanto, said that following the accident on KM 58 of the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road in Karawang district, West Java, on April 8, 2024, his party received 13 body bags containing 11 bodies and two body parts.

The accident occurred on the KM 58 contraflow route of the toll road and involved three vehicles — a Primajasa bus, a Gran Max van, and a Daihatsu Terios car.

The Gran Max and Terios were burnt in the accident.

A total of 12 people — all Gran Max passengers — died in the mishap. They consisted of seven men and five women.

There were no victims in the Terios car, while two passengers on the Primajasa bus were injured in the accident.
