Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Greater Jakarta Police's traffic director, Senior Commissioner Latif Usman, has expressed the hope that people will prepare ahead for their return trip to Jakarta after celebrating Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijri in their hometowns.

He said here on Friday that the police office has predicted that one million vehicles will enter Jakarta during the return flow, or from April 13 to 16, 2024. Hence, the public is expected to plan their trip well.

"Every day, there are an average of 250 thousand vehicles (entering Jakarta), which is already quite high. Therefore, I expect people who want to return to Jakarta to prepare everything," he added here on Thursday.

In addition to asking them to plan their travel schedule well, Usman asked travelers to choose the toll gates that they will exit from, for instance, Cikunir Interchange, Tanjung Priok, and Halim, to prevent long queues of vehicles.

"These three toll gates are crucial as the entry points of Jakarta that we must pay close attention to. However, we already have a functional toll road from Cibitung to Cimanggis," he said.

Therefore, people returning to Bogor, Depok, and Cibubur will not have to pass through the Cikunir Toll Gate since the three cities are quite far from the exit.

He said that the authority will apply the contraflow traffic scheme again if there is congestion on the Halim Toll Road.

"The contraflow will be the last step we do, namely from the Halim Toll Gate to Slipi or to the front of the Greater Jakarta Regional Police or to the front of the Parliament (DPR) building," he said.

Usman also added that the return flow of vehicles will be handled well so that the entry to Jakarta is smoother.
