"To maximize airplane movements, AirNav Indonesia needs to make the most of runways 2 and 3 of the Soeakarno-Hatta Airport, so that airplanes can land simultaneously," he stated while visiting the airport in Tangerang, Banten, on Friday.
Sumadi noted in his ministry's statement received here that simultaneous utilization of the two runways is of the essence to provide the finest services to Eid travelers.
"The number of airplane movements can reach 110 per hour if all instruments are implemented. The current number is 87, which is expected to increase to the expected figure," he pointed out.
According to Sumadi, the highest number of flights accommodated by the airport during the Eid homecoming flow stood at 1,236 on April 6, with a total of 187,750 passengers served.
Meanwhile, the highest number of flights recorded during the Eid return flow was 843 on April 11, with 121,325 passengers served.
He then urged all relevant stakeholders to work hand in hand to prepare for the peak of the return flow predicted to occur on Sunday (April 14) or Monday (April 15).
"Please, pay attention to luggage services, as the number of flights on Monday will surely exceed 1,236. I believe the number will hit 1,250. Hence, all airlines should make preparations," he emphasized.
He also suggested that people return earlier to Jakarta from their hometowns to avoid heavy traffic, noting that the government has devised scenarios to anticipate heavy flow.
"The government has prepared scenarios to anticipate heavy traffic. One more thing, I have asked the police to screen unofficial travel agents," he stated.
