Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) announced that the search and rescue (SAR) operation for the victims of landslides that hit Tana Toraja, South Sulawesi, had been concluded, as the missing victims were found.

The Disaster Management Operations Control Center of BNPB recorded that 20 residents were reportedly missing, and all of them were found dead.

“Since all the victims have been found, the search and rescue operation was stopped," Head of the Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center of the BNPB Abdul Muhari noted in a BNPB statement received here on Tuesday.

He revealed that the last two victims were found dead on Monday (April 15) in Manggau Village, Makale Sub-district.

Of the total 20 dead victims, 16 were found in Manggau Village, while the other four were found in Lembang Randan Baru Village, South Makale Sub-district.

Apart from the missing victims, Muhari stated that the joint SAR operation team had earlier been able to evacuate 77 survivors of the landslides that hit the district on Saturday (April 13) night.

The BNPB reported earlier that the survivors had been evacuated to emergency posts set up in the yard of a local church.

The BNPB ensured that those residents are currently safe and their needs are met under the monitoring of the Tana Toraja District Government and the church.

The agency also distributed aid in the form of logistics and equipment that included tents, family tents, staple goods, ready-to-eat food, blankets, mattresses, folding mattresses, generators, water pumps, and water purifiers.

Muhari stated that the BNPB will also provide support in the form of Ready-to-Use Funds (DSP) worth Rp250 million (around US$15,447) for emergency response and recovery operations, including to fulfill basic needs for the affected residents.
