Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi stated that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership can boost economic cooperation between Indonesia and one of its biggest trade partners, China, as well as foreign investors.

“China is Indonesia’s biggest trade partner, with a trade volume reaching more than US$127 billion,” Marsudi noted in a press conference with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi here on Thursday.

The minister remarked that China is also one of Indonesia’s biggest foreign investors, with an investment value of more than US$7.4 billion in 2023.

Marsudi noted that Indonesia-China economic cooperation under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will continue to be fostered in various fields with a spirit of cooperation, mutual respect, and mutual benefit.

Regarding investment cooperation between Indonesia and China, the minister stated that it will be focused on the sectors of industrial downstreaming, infrastructure development, manufacturing, energy transition, and food security.

In addition, she stated that cooperation will continue to be bolstered in the non-economic sectors, such as social, cultural, and science and technology.

The minister further stated that to encourage more detailed discussions on economic cooperation between the two parties, Indonesia and China will hold the high-level dialogue cooperation mechanism (HDCM).

The meeting will be held in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, on Friday (April 19), and will be attended by representatives from the two countries.

Marsudi affirmed that she and Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan will lead the Indonesian representatives. As for China, she said, the representatives will be led by Minister Wang.

Apart from economic cooperation, she noted that regional cooperation, including with China, is crucial in the efforts to tackle cross-border crimes, including online fraud, which had ensnared several Indonesian victims.

In this regard, she is pushing for cooperation with China to prevent such crimes.

Indonesia is the first destination of Wang’s international visits from April 18 to April 23, 2024. After Indonesia, the Chinese top diplomat will visit Cambodia and Papua New Guinea.
