"In line with the instruction of the ESDM Minister Arifin Tasrif, we deployed the ministry's disaster response team. We provided aid packages for those in need ," the ministry's Director of Environmental Engineering at the Directorate General of Minerals and Coal, Sunindyo Suryo Herdadi, said.
Herdadi, who also leads the ministry's Disaster Preparedness Team, said in a press statement made available to ANTARA here Sunday that
the aid packages logistics contained rice, biscuits, instant noodles, and milk.
The ministry's Disaster Preparedness team members comprise those from national mining companies and energy and mineral resources sector-related associations who are ready to be deployed at any time, he added.
He informed that four mining companies operating in North Sulawesi participated in the assistance provision. They were Archi Indonesia, PT Meares Soputan Mining, PT Tambang Tondano Nusajaya, and PT Geopersada Mulia Abadi (GMA).
Besides deploying the disaster preparedness team members, the Geological Agency of the ESDM Ministry had also sent the emergency response personnel from Bandung and North Sulawesi.
The Emergency Response Team personnel succeeded in installing a closed-circuit television (CCTV) to replace the damaged one to visually monitor Mount Ruang's volcanic activity.
"A team of personnel from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG) and ESDM Ministry have installed one monitoring station or seismic station approximately 5 kilometers away from the peak to monitor the activity of Mount Ruang," the Head of the Geological Agency Muhammad Wafid said.
Regarding the latest development of Mount Ruang's eruption, Wafid informed that based on observation on April 20, his party recorded one eruption-triggered earthquake, 24 shallow volcanic earthquakes, 17 deep volcanic earthquakes, one time felt earthquake, and one distant tectonic earthquake.
"The potential danger is an explosive eruption producing rocks thrown (incandescence) to all directions which can be followed by hot clouds or lava flows," he explained.
