The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and International Labor Organization (ILO) are organizing a training activity on April 22-26 in Yogyakarta to build awareness of the importance of a green and blue economy.
Through the activity, titled "Training of Trainers on Transitioning to a Green and Blue Economy," the Indonesian Government and ILO aim to disseminate information about viable ways to implement the principles of a green and blue economy in the tourism and creative economy sectors.
"This cooperation in empowering tourism village residents aligns with the pillars of productivity, inclusiveness, and sustainability promoted by Minister Sandiaga Uno to develop Indonesia's tourism," the ministry's Deputy for Resources and Institution, Diah Martini Paham, noted in her office's statement received here on Tuesday.
Paham explained that a green economy can support practices of sustainability, resource efficiency, and transition into renewable energy resources through the promotion of renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, ecotourism, and green technology.
"Meanwhile, a blue economy refers to economic activities related to the utilization and conservation of marine resources. Industries relevant to this concept are agriculture, aquaculture, sea transportation, and marine tourism," she pointed out.
Paham further noted that Indonesia can achieve targets set in its tourism sector by implementing a green and blue economy.
According to data, she highlighted that the tourism sector has empowered 21.93 million workers and contributed US$10.46 billion to the country's total value of foreign exchange as of September 2023.
Meanwhile, the creative economy sector has recorded an export value of US$17.38 billion and resulted in added value totaling Rp1 quadrillion (around US$61.5 billion).
The official then expressed optimism about Indonesia actualizing its visions of sustainable economy and quality tourism by implementing the concepts of blue and green economy.
