Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) expects the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in Bali to bring a big influence on global water management policies.

Expert Staff to the Minister of PUPR for Technology, Industry, and the Environment, Endra S. Atmawidjaja, stated on Wednesday that Indonesia is believed to have a big influence on decision making and water management policies for global interests.

The 10th WWF will also become a momentum to ensure global cooperation in maintaining the sustainability of water resources for human life, he noted.

"Since the beginning, Indonesia has consistently pushed for water issues to be discussed at the highest level at various forums. It needs strong encouragement from policy makers," he remarked.

Atmawidjaja, concurrently serving as deputy chair of the Secretariat of the 10th World Water Forum National Committee, stated that Indonesia brought three special missions to be agreed upon at the forum.

The three missions are the Center of Excellence on Water and Climate Resilience, mainstream integrated water management in small islands, and routine World Lake Days activities.

"This is important to discuss because lakes are a source of raw materials, energy, and even flood control," he explained.

The 10th WWF in Bali on May 18-25 has three main processes, namely political, regional, and thematic, all three of which will involve various stakeholders, starting from state leaders, ministers, regional leaders, academics, and researchers to the younger generation who will exchange ideas.

The event will feature 230 thematic forum sessions, 55 side events, and 10 special sessions. Moreover, the Indonesian government has invited 44 heads of state, four heads of international institutions, and 198 ministers or ministerial-level officials responsible for water resources issues.

WWF is held every three years between the World Water Council and the host country. The forum accommodates the water community and key decision makers to collaborate and make long-term progress in addressing global water challenges.
