Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah, on Thursday, expressed optimism that the National Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Program for the 2024-2029 period would support the smooth development of national strategic projects (PSNs).
During the program's launch event livestreamed from Jakarta, Fauziyah remarked that the program is aimed at spreading the application of the OSH culture in Indonesia in the hopes of reducing the number of work accident cases that has been rising in recent years.
"Secondly, this (program) is also expected to boost added value and minimize the risk losses in every national strategic project while supporting the implementation of the downstreaming policy in other sectors," she pointed out.
The minister also hoped that the newly launched document of the national OSH program would support the next administration led by Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who have been declared the winning candidate pair in the 2024 presidential election.
She further remarked that the launch of the document marks a crucial and strategic step to disseminate information about the OSH culture to a broader population and suppress the number of work accidents and occupational illness cases.
In this regard, Fauziyah cited data from state health insurance provider BPJS Kesehatan that shows an increased number of work accidents and occupational illness cases.
According to BPJS Kesehatan, the number of work accident insurance claims increased, from 182,835 in 2019 to 221,740, 234,370, and 297,725 in the three succeeding years, she stated.
In the first half of 2023, she remarked that BPJS Kesehatan recorded 159,127 work accident insurance claims from wage recipient workers, 7,845 from non-wage recipient workers, and 1,363 from construction workers. The number of occupational illness cases stood at 91 during the period.
