Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is scheduled to receive a visit from Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Microsoft, Satya Nadella, at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday (April 30), to discuss Indonesia's digital transformation.

"The CEO of Microsoft will meet with President Jokowi at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta at 8:30 a.m. local time," Communication and Informatics Minister Budi Arie Setiadi noted in a short message received here Monday.

He underlined that digital transformation is of the essence for Indonesia in order to emerge as a developed country.

Setiadi said that the planned meeting between President Jokowi and Nadella is highly expected to result in a commitment to creating scientific and technological breakthroughs that will help Indonesia advance.

"It is also vital that we continue to enhance our capability of adapting and innovating," he emphasized.

The minister further noted that the government would provide the public with more detailed information on the meeting after it concludes.

"Just wait for the details tomorrow. The meeting has been scheduled for tomorrow morning. The specific agenda of the meeting will be revealed afterwards. We can assure that the meeting will be beneficial to Indonesia," he emphasized.

Earlier, Setiadi stated that Microsoft had been planning on investing huge capitals across an array of fields in Indonesia, including for the development of digitally capable human resources.

Microsoft's plan to invest in Indonesia has been made clear by the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) and the company.

Through the MoU, Microsoft stated its commitment to supporting the capacity building of digital talents and the strengthening of the Indonesian government's infrastructure and digitization.

Furthermore, the government and the company have also agreed to cooperate in improving the governance of artificial intelligence and strengthening the implementation and practice of personal data protection.

The document to the cooperation agreement was inked by Secretary-General of the Kominfo Ministry Mira Tayyiba and President Director of Microsoft Indonesia Dharma Simorangkir.
