Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono expressed belief that Law No.2 of 2024 concerning the Special Region of Jakarta (DKJ), signed by President Joko Widodo, would be the best instrument for the province.

"First of all, we are glad that the DKJ Law has been passed. Mr. President has signed it. This (law) will surely give the best to Jakarta," he remarked at the Jakarta Town Hall, Central Jakarta, on Monday.

He said the Jakarta provincial government still awaits the issuance of a presidential decree that will officiate the transfer of Indonesia's seat of government to Nusantara in East Kalimantan Province.

"Hopefully, Jakarta will be able to implement all articles put forward (in the law). Now, we just have to wait for the related presidential decree," the acting governor remarked, adding that he had yet to be informed about the issuance date of the decree.

Hartono said the most important aspect is that Jakarta is able to properly implement all provisions for the sake of its continued development after it ceases to be Indonesia's capital.

"I do not know yet. Most importantly, the DKJ Law has been passed. Hence, we hope that we will be able to implement all articles outlined in the law," he stressed.

President Widodo has signed Law No.2 of 2024 regarding DKJ that governs matters related to the relocation of Indonesia's capital city to Nusantara.

Based on a copy of the law accessed on a website managed by the State Secretary Ministry, article 1 (paragraph 1) defines the Jakarta Special Region Province as a province that wields exclusivity in running the administration within the Republic of Indonesia.

The head of state inked the law in Jakarta on April 25, 2024, while State Secretary Minister Pratikno legislated it on the same day.
