Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture and Iran established synergy to strengthen Indonesia's agricultural sector through technological and scientific cooperation to drive stronger and more sustainable food productivity.

"Iran is very advanced in the latest high-tech irrigation systems and technology for preserving food," Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia Mohammad Boroujerdi remarked during a meeting with Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Boroujerdi noted that various technologies owned by Iran include production storage machines, planting machines, preservation machines, and also other latest machines, such as water propulsion or pumping systems.

"We even have other technologies for agriculture, and we will share our experiences in this field," Boroujerdi stated.

He also highlighted that efforts to boost food productivity in a stronger and more sustainable manner were also carried out by strengthening mechanization and pumping systems as well as utilizing swamp land.

Moreover, Boroujerdi said that his side will encourage food import and export exchanges with Indonesia in the horticulture subsector, especially those related to fruits.

Boroujerdi said Iran has several quality fruits that can complement food offerings in Indonesia.

"We have many areas for establishing cooperation between Indonesia and Iran. We have different fruits that can complement the two countries, of course, through exports and imports of the two countries," Boroujerdi stated.

Meanwhile, Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman assessed that Iran is known as one of the countries famous for its technological advancements.

"Iran even has its own technology that can increase agricultural production," Sulaiman remarked.

Sulaiman admitted that he continues to focus on increasing rice and corn production as Indonesia's future commodities.

One of the efforts is to create a quick solution to anticipate El Nino with pumping technology and processing swamp land.

Hence, Sulaiman expressed hope that cooperation with Iran would help Indonesia's efforts to achieve food self-sufficiency and even become the world's food basket.

"Our target in the next two years is to achieve self-sufficiency and then Indonesia will become the world's food basket," he stressed.
