"Although there has been an increase in cases and people are being treated in hospitals in several areas, there were no reports of areas being overwhelmed with patient care," the ministry's Director of Infectious Disease Prevention and Control, Imran Pambudi, stated on Friday.
According to Pambudi, health facility managers had conducted mitigation of the spike in cases in accordance with a circular addressed to all health services and hospitals in the country in January and April 2024.
The letter explains that the increase in cases is related to climate change, thereby resulting in mosquitoes being able to survive and reproduce longer and leading to an increase in the number, Pambudi explained.
"In January and April 2024, we sent circulars to health services and hospitals to mitigate the spike in dengue cases because we predict an increase in cases due to climate change in early 2024," he stated.
Meanwhile, the ministry's Directorate General of P2P reported that until the 17th week of 2024, some 88,593 dengue cases and 621 deaths were reported in several areas.
This figure has more than tripled from the same period last year to 28,579 cases, with 209 deaths reported.
This year's dengue cases were recorded in 456 districts and cities in 34 provinces, while deaths due to dengue occurred in 174 districts and cities in 28 provinces, Pambudi remarked.
The five districts and cities with the highest number of cases reported were Bandung City, with 3,468 cases; Tangerang, 2,540 cases; Bogor City, 1,944 cases; Kendari City, 1,659 cases; and West Bandung, 1,576 cases.
The highest rate of death cases due to dengue was reported from Bandung District, with 29 people; Jepara, 21 people; Bekasi City, 19 people; Subang, 18 people; and Kendal, 17 people, he revealed.
Meanwhile, suspected cases of dengue originating from the Early Warning and Response System (SKDR) report were cumulatively reported at 262,463.
