Palembang, South Sumatra (ANTARA) - An official from the Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) Ministry informed on Monday that the ministry is open to collaborating on clear lobster seed (BBL) cultivation with countries that bring their own funds and technology.

"Besides cooperation with Vietnam, we also open doors for other foreign investors if they bring the money and technology," assistant to the KKP Minister for media and public communication, Doni Ismanto, said on Monday.

He informed that his ministry will reject countries that only bring money to buy lobster seeds considering that such a practice would only benefit one party.

If foreign investors bring in funds and technology for BBL cultivation, Indonesia will benefit economically and it will also help develop human resources, in line with advancing domestic BBL cultivation technology.

"We teach the investor to cultivate here, build the business here," Ismanto said.

The KKP Ministry implemented the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries' Regulation (Permen) KP Number 7 of 2024 concerning the Management of Lobster and Crab in March this year.

The regulation aims to transform governance by prioritizing the principles of sustainable lobster cultivation and making Indonesia an important part of the global lobster supply chain, Ismanto informed.

Earlier, KKP Minister, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, said that cooperation in lobster cultivation with Vietnam is expected to help revive the lobster cultivation ecosystem in Indonesia.

"Our lobster cultivation ecosystem did not run optimally. With cooperation, we hope we can improve the ecosystem. For example, we relied on caught trash fish for lobster feed, meanwhile, Vietnam already has its own feed industry," the minister explained.

Under the cooperation agreement between the two countries, Vietnamese business actors planning to utilize clear lobster seeds (BBL) will need to carry out cultivation activities in Indonesia by collaborating with local business actors.

The scheme will involve a transfer of technology and work ethic, which is crucial for the development of lobster cultivation in Indonesia, he added.
