"I congratulate Christians and Catholics on the commemoration of the Ascension of Jesus Christ. There is always value and meaning in every religious commemoration," Minister Qoumas noted in a statement here on Thursday.
The minister expressed hope that Christians in Indonesia would understand the deepest meaning of this commemoration.
He remarked that Jesus' teachings had a spirit of service and universal friendship.
He also stated that the Ascension of Jesus Christ motivates Christians to serve others and build togetherness amid diversity.
"I see this year's commemoration of the Ascension of Jesus Christ as an important moment for Christians to re-strengthen universal friendship, especially after the general election," he affirmed.
The minister also emphasized that as a country, Indonesia needs all parties to contribute and play their role in building this country.
"Hence, let us build friendship and strengthen harmony, so that service to the people can be optimal amid diversity," the minister remarked.
