Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA) - Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini has provided assistance worth Rp210 million (around US$13 thousand) to the kin of those killed due to last week's flash flood and landslide in South Sulawesi's Luwu, Sidrap, and Wajo Districts.

"We have provided the assistance," she said, according to a statement received here on Friday.

She made the remarks while visiting the locations affected by the flash flood and landslide in Luwu District, South Sulawesi, as well as the evacuation camp set up for affected residents.

She also made the visit to ensure the accuracy of data on the number of victims so that social aid from the government can be distributed on target.

"The district head has collected the data on the victims. I will strive to distribute social assistance for them this month. We will also collect data on damaged houses and how many children who lost their parents," she added.

In addition, she said that her side has coordinated with the acting governor of South Sulawesi, Bahtiar Baharuddin, and acting district head of Luwu, Muhammad Saleh, to prepare food storage in Latimojong Sub-district, which is still isolated.

"There are several scenarios prepared for further post-disaster handling, and we will discuss them later with the governor, district head, the military (TNI), and the National Police (Polri) on how to handle it," Rismaharini informed.

The flash flood in Luwu District is still being analyzed as the disaster has caused casualties and property loss, she said.

She added that the ministry will quickly form a team that will ensure the availability of clean water for disaster victims.

"We will carry out a mapping for the clean water and other things. There will be a team that will work together," she informed.

So far, the May 3, 2024, landslide and flash flood in Luwu have caused 13 fatalities and damaged 369 homes.
