Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's House Speaker Puan Maharani said 36 parliamentary delegates from various countries and representatives of regional and international organizations will attend the parliamentary meetings during the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in Bali.

"The delegates will attend the dinner hosted by President Joko Widodo at the Garuda Wisnu Kencana, with the series of the 10th WWF meetings started on May 19, 2024," she said in a written statement here on Sunday.

Maharani explained that the parliamentary session, with theme of mobilizing parliamentary action on water for shared prosperity, is part of the 10th WWF series.

She said that parliament has a very important perspective and role in the formulation of legislation and budgets, especially in water management policies.

She said that the delegation will discuss, share experiences and exchange views on legislation on water issues in four plenary sessions.

Each session will discuss water and its links to sustainable development, innovation and inclusive access for all, and how climate change can affect water resource availability around the world.

In addition, the meetings will discuss how diplomacy can play a role in advancing cooperation in the development of water management technology.

During the meeting, parliamentary delegates from friendly countries will also be introduced to Indonesian local wisdom in managing water in the community, which has been around and running for a long time.

Besides the 10th World Water Forum, the House of Representatives in collaboration with the Inter-Parliamentary Forum (IPU), will also host the world's inter-parliamentary meeting on water, from May 19 to 21, 2024.

The special parliamentary session will be opened on May 20 by the Indonesian House Speaker, and President of the World Water Council (WWC) Loic Fauchon.
