Jakarta (ANTARA) - Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian chaired the Ministerial Meeting of the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC) in Badung, Bali, on Monday (May 20).

The forum was attended by various countries' delegates who discussed challenges and solutions related to water management, according to Karnavian's statement received here on Tuesday.

In the meeting, Minister Karnavian emphasized the importance of water as a source of life.

"Access to clean and safe drinking water is a human right and the foundation of public health and welfare," he remarked.

He explained that water is an important issue in the current and future global challenges, such as population growth, pollution, and rising temperatures, which cause water scarcity in several parts of the world.

Karnavian also highlighted the impacts of climate change that had increased the frequency and intensity of floods, which endanger millions of people without sustainable water management.

"Water issues are not only a professional and academic concern, but it also requires strong leadership from policymakers. Water is a political matter," he stated.

To that end, he invited the delegates to make the 10th WWF a beacon that can guide the way towards inclusive, impactful, and mutually beneficial cooperation in water management to protect future generations.

The 10th World Water Forum, themed "Water for Shared Prosperity," is being held in Bali on May 18-25, 2024. President Joko Widodo officially opened the WWF series on Monday (May 20).

At the Ministerial Meeting on Monday, a series of statements were delivered by various participating countries, such as Kenya, Tanzania, Namibia, Saudi Arabia, China, Finland, and Brunei Darussalam.

In addition, representatives from international organizations, namely UNESCO, UNDRR, and UNDP, were given the opportunity to present their views on water issues.
