Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo assigned Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono to accelerate the new capital city (IKN) Nusantara development program by resolving land status issues and establishing a special IKN regional government.

Hadimuljono, who was recently appointed as Acting Head of the IKN Authority (OIKN), made the statement during a press conference at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday.

His appointment was made following the resignations of Bambang Susantono and Dhony Rahajoe as Head and Deputy of OIKN.

"The acting head has similar duties to the head and deputy of OIKN until the definitive head and deputy head are appointed in accordance with the law," he noted at a press conference at the Presidential Palace on Monday.

Hadimuljono remarked that the acceleration of the IKN development program focuses on the urban design, Nusa Rimba Raya, which brings positive benefits for the community.

The minister pointed out that until now, the program's implementation was hindered by the issue of land status for investment purposes in IKN.

To overcome this problem, the president also appointed Deputy Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning Raja Juli Antoni as acting deputy head of OIKN.

According to Hadimuljono, investors need legal certainty regarding the land status in IKN to guarantee their investment.

"The two of us will immediately decide on land status at IKN on whether it will be sold or rented. We want to speed up the process, so investors no longer hesitate to invest," he remarked.

In addition, Hadimuljono is preparing the draft on the Special Regional Government (Pemdasus) for IKN, in line with the transfer of the capital city from Jakarta to IKN.

"Once the presidential decree is signed by the president regarding IKN, there will be an embryo of the IKN Regional Government. IKN will not immediately become a regional government because it is OIKN's job to accelerate IKN development," he explained.

He remarked that the IKN Special Regional Government will be prepared separately by a joint task force with the Ministry of Home Affairs.
