Our focus is on collecting points for the Olympics seeding.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Men's singles badminton athlete Jonatan Christie has said that he is determined to get the best results at the Kapal Api Indonesia Open 2024 tournament, which will be held from June 4–9 in Jakarta.

"This (tournament) is one of the biggest matches at the individual level. Moreover, this is at home; I, as an athlete, hope to be the best here," he added at a press conference at Istora Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex here on Monday.

Christie will compete with 29 other athletes in the Kapal Api Indonesia Open. The tournament has five categories: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles.

Some other top Indonesian badminton athletes will also participate in the tournament, such as Anthony Sinisuka Ginting (men's singles), Gregoria Mariska Tunjung (women's singles), and Fajar Alfian/M. Rian Ardianto (men's doubles).

Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti and Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari will also compete in the women's doubles and mixed doubles matches.

For Christie, delivering his best performance at home is something he wishes for.

"My preparation so far has been great and I will discuss some things again with the coach about the strategy during the play so that I can win in the first game immediately," he said.

He added that he, along with several other athletes who will compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics, will use the tournament to collect points for seeding.

"Our focus is on collecting points for the Olympics seeding," he said.

Kapal Api Indonesia Open 2024 will see participation from 241 athletes from 22 countries. The most athletes will be from China, which will send 39 players for the tournament.
