Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) stated that Indonesia’s badminton athletes still have the task of securing seed positions that will benefit them in the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics. Those seed positions are pursued in the ongoing Badminton Asia Championship 2024, the Thomas & Uber Cup, and the Super 1000 Indonesia Open in early June.

“Hopefully, the certainty on tickets (for the Olympics) will give a new spirit to the athletes and the team,” head of the PBSI Ad Hoc team for the Paris Olympics M. Fadil Imran stated as quoted from a PBSI statement, Friday.

Indonesia ensured that it would send its badminton athletes to compete at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, scheduled from July 26 to August 11.

The country will be represented by Jonatan Christie and Anthony Sinisuka Ginting for the men’s singles, Gregoria Mariska Tanjung for the women’s singles, Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto for the men’s doubles, and Apriyani Rahayu and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti for the women’s doubles.

As for mixed doubles, Indonesia will be represented by Rinov Rivaldy and Pitha Haningtyas Mentari.

“This achievement is the result of a surefire strategy in creating a road map for athletes in partaking in various tournaments throughout the year. This is the result of collective work,” Imran stated.

Badminton is one sport where Indonesia secured tickets to participate in the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics. The other sports are archery, artistic gymnastics, shooting, rock climbing, surfing, weightlifting, and athletics.

Earlier, in the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu bagged gold for Indonesia in the women’s doubles, while Anthony Sinisuka Ginting won bronze for the country in the men’s singles.

“I appreciate all parties involved in the preparations for this Olympics because they have moved with one vision, one spirit, to give the best for Indonesia. I also would like to thank Indonesian people who have given prayers, criticism, and suggestions to us,” he remarked.
