Defense Minister and President-elect Prabowo Subianto updated Indonesia's President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) about the results of the meetings he attended during the 2024 Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, including the one with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"I have just reported the results of the meetings I attended during my two-day visit to Singapore. I met with various figures, including defense ministers from different countries. I have also briefed the president on my meeting with President Zelenskyy," he remarked.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday, the minister told journalists that at the meeting, he offered Zelenskyy Indonesia's proposals to achieve a ceasefire with Russia.
"He (Zelenskyy) has yet to agree with what we proposed. However, we will continue to try (to help actualize a ceasefire)," he remarked.
Prabowo further noted that the bilateral meeting with Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue was held on the initiative of the Ukrainian president.
He then added that Zelenskyy had invited him to take part in the Peace Summit scheduled for June 15-16 this year in Geneva, Switzerland.
"He (Zelenskyy) did express keenness to meet with Indonesia, with me. He invited me to Geneva. However, Indonesia's participation in the summit will be decided by President Jokowi, foreign affairs minister, and coordinating minister for political, legal, and security affairs," he remarked.
He said several countries believe that the Peace Summit should be attended by all relevant parties, especially Ukraine and Russia, as the warring parties.
Meanwhile, based on latest reports, Russia is not invited to participate in the Peace Summit in Geneva.
