Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Law and Human Rights Ministry affirmed that legal translations from sworn translators are fundamental to establishing cooperation between countries.

"The results of the translation of international treaty documents will be the main instrument for the implementation of international cooperation," the ministry's Director General of Legal Administrative Affairs, Cahyo Rahadian Muzhar, noted in a statement received here on Friday.

Muzhar made the remark while inaugurating new sworn translators in Jakarta on Thursday (June 6).

He explained that translated documents that became the foundation of international cooperation included international law enforcement cooperation, diplomatic relations, business relations, and legal aid application documents.

Hence, Muzhar called on sworn translators to be professional, independent, and competent in the field of translation, in addition to being able to work well and maintain the code of ethics.

"The translation by sworn translators is legal and is evidence that must be acknowledged as true unless proven otherwise, so sworn translators must keep being professional," he emphasized.

At the event, he inaugurated and swore in 51 new translators in accordance with their qualifications.

They ranged from translators from Indonesian languages to foreign languages and vice versa.

Their competency has been evidenced by the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP).

Muzhar stated that, until now, there have been 123 sworn-in translators for various languages. The ministry conducted the swearing-in for those in the profession of translating various legal documents that have become increasingly diverse amid various forms of international cooperation.

"In my opinion, this is an honorable and very promising career. Therefore, I hope that you can carry out your duties professionally, honestly, and trustfully," he told the new sworn-in translators.
