Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Foreign Ministry reported that 18 Indonesians evacuated from Iran are currently stranded in Qatar due to airspace closure following Tehran's missile attacks on the United States' Al-Udeid military base on Monday.

The closure disrupted flights from Doha, Qatar, said Andy Rachmianto, Director General of Protocol and Consular Affairs at the ministry, in Tangerang, Banten, on Tuesday.

He said the evacuees are still waiting for their Doha–Jakarta flight.

“Hopefully, they will be able to fly back home tomorrow (Wednesday),” he said.

To facilitate their return, the Indonesian Embassy in Doha has coordinated with Qatari authorities and Qatar Airways, Rachmianto added.

In addition to the 18 evacuees in Qatar, 11 Indonesians who were previously evacuated from Iran via Baku, Azerbaijan, on Friday, June 20, arrived safely in Jakarta on Tuesday evening.

“The 11 evacuees are from East Java and East Kalimantan,” he noted.

According to the Foreign Ministry, 115 of 386 Indonesian nationals in Iran and 11 of 192 in Israel had registered for evacuation amid rising tensions between Tehran and Tel Aviv.

The conflict escalated after Israel launched surprise attacks on Iran’s nuclear and military facilities on June 13. In response, Iran retaliated with missile strikes on Israeli targets later that same day.

Iranian news agency IRNA quoted senior military official General Ahmad Vahidi as saying that the retaliatory attacks — dubbed "Operation True Promise III" — would "continue for as long as necessary.”

The United States, a staunch supporter of Israel for decades, entered the war by bombing three Iranian nuclear sites on June 22.

The 12-day Iran-Israel war ended on Tuesday, June 24, with a fragile ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump and later confirmed by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
