According to a written statement from KOOPS HABEMA received in Jakarta, Thursday, local residents have returned to their normal activities, with security provided by the Indonesian Joint Security Forces (APKAM) after the evacuation ended on May 18, 2024.
Earlier, on April 30, 2024, the Free Papua Organization (OPM) committed brutal acts against the Homeyo community that led to several Homeyo residents fleeing for refuge.
“The safe situation of Homeyo Sub-district has given residents enthusiasm to carry out their daily activities,” Commander of the Joint Defense Region Command III (Pangkogabwilhan III), Lt. Gen. Richard T.H. Tampubolon, stated.
Also included in the APKAM are TNI soldiers in the Territorial Task Force (Satgaster) of the Intan Jaya Preparatory Kodim, which is under the KOOPS HABEMA, according to the statement.

The Pangkogabwilhan III and several TNI officers had the opportunity to conduct inclusive communication with all figures of Homeyo Sub-district.
Tampubolon also took the time to conduct ROSITA (Buy up Farming Products) by buying all the farming products of the residents that were then taken to Timika, Central Papua, to improve the agricultural commodities and economy of the Homeyo community.
Moreover, he distributed basic food items, including rice, sugar, noodles, and cooking oil, as well as handed over assistance, such as solar cells, batteries, and electric lights, to the Homeyo community.
Earlier, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto formed the KOOPS HABEMA to unite the TNI and Indonesian Police operational patterns in handling conflicts in several areas of Papua.
Subiyanto believes that KOOPS HABEMA can increase the effectiveness of conflict management in Papua, where, in recent years, incidents of harassment and attacks by the OPM rebel group have been reported.
