Jakarta (ANTARA) - Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo has asked the manager of Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) to optimize the maintenance of field grass so that it remains in good condition for football matches.

"Ideally, every football match must have grass that is 100 percent proper. We always encourage this," the minister said while delivering a press statement at the Jakarta Presidential Palace here on Thursday.

He made the statement after a limited meeting with President Joko Widodo and other Onward Indonesia Cabinet ministers to discuss the preparations for the 21st National Sports Week (PON) in Aceh and North Sumatra.

He lauded the stadium's management for consistently exploring a good maintenance system for the field grass.

"We must appreciate that GBK is always looking for an excellent grass treatment pattern and now the progress is very good," he said.

Later, the SUGBK management will carry out several field care methods, one of which will involve moving the grass to the nursery and then maintaining it there, he informed.

"In the future, I think the grass care will be carried out at the nursery so it is well-maintained and faster," he said.

He stressed that the use of SUGBK should be prioritized for sports activities. However, he also expressed his support for efforts to make SUGBK a center for community activities.

"We support how to take care of GBK for sports, that is the priority, but another important thing is how this stadium can also become a center for community activities," he added.

For this reason, he said he supports the SUGBK manager's step to move one part of the field grass to the nursery to optimize its care.

"We want to use it for holding concerts and football matches, but their schedules should not be close," he added.
