Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) and the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) have agreed and committed to making efforts to support peace in Palestine.

MUI deputy chairperson Marsudi Syuhud said that efforts to support Palestine can be realized through the collaboration of ulemas, religious organizations, and the government, including the TNI.

"Hopefully, we can also support our brothers and sisters who are not yet independent, like Palestine," he added at an MUI and TNI gathering at the MUI office in Jakarta on Friday.

Syuhud noted that through the collaboration of various parties, Indonesia has provided aid worth around Rp35 billion (around US$2.12 million) to Palestine.

He also welcomed the statement of Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto earlier about a plan to provide educational support to one thousand Palestinian children through Islamic boarding schools (pesantren).

He expressed gratitude for the collaboration between stakeholders, which has made Indonesia a peaceful and prosperous country, and said he hoped the same results can be replicated in Palestine.

Meanwhile, TNI commander General Agus Subiyanto said that the TNI will carry out humanitarian operations in Gaza, Palestine.

He said that the TNI will make several efforts during the operations, such as construction, education, and provision of health facilities and other forms of humanitarian assistance.

"I'd also like to thank the MUI Leadership Council, which has provided strong support for the TNI's commitment, stance, policies, and programs for maintaining and realizing peace in areas of the world that are affected by conflict," he added.
