According to a press release received from the ministry here on Friday (June 14), traditional culture carnivals can improve friendship between communities and village officials, ensuring that the spirit of village-building never fades.
Minister Iskandar noted that the carnivals are part of efforts to achieve the 18th Village SDG, namely Dynamic Village Institutions and Adaptive Village Culture, by utilizing existing potential.
"The existence of this culture is an important effort to build villages based on cultural roots. Building villages can depend on cultural carnivals," he said while attending a traditional culture carnival in Jatiwates village, Jombang district, East Java, on Friday.
He appealed to the village community and officials to continue to preserve the traditional cultural carnival, which is held every year ahead of Eid al-Adha.
He emphasized that local noble values must continue to be maintained through such cultural activities. Furthermore, culture carnivals can foster the value of mutual cooperation and build a sense of community in village environments.
"This tradition must be preserved because the mutual cooperation, togetherness, and noble values left behind by our elders are very good. This is also a life resource in the community," he said.
The ministry initiated the 18 Village Sustainable Development Goals as directions for village development in Indonesia.
The 18th goal seeks to preserve traditional roots, culture, as well as local wisdom of every village in Indonesia to ensure that no matter how developed a village becomes, its noble values continue to persist.
