"We have coordinated with several airlines in Indonesia, such as Garuda Indonesia, Citilink, Lion Group, and AirAsia to make additional flights, " Sumadi remarked here on Sunday.
He said that the addition of flights to the new capital city is important, due to the massive activities related to the 79th celebration of the Indonesian Independence Day.
"Especially related to massive activities that will be carried out in IKN after August 1," the minister said.
Sumadi also announced that the government is ready to register the Nusantara Airport in IKN to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Acting Deputy Head of the Nusantara Capital City Authority (OIKN) Raja Juli Antoni said the celebration of the 79th Anniversary of the Indonesian Independence on August 17, 2024 will serve as the transition ceremony.
"This is a 'transition' ceremony to welcome the new capital," Antoni said.
The national Independence Day ceremony will be carried out in a hybrid manner in two places, namely in Nusantara, East Kalimantan, and Jakarta.
President Joko Widodo and President-elect Prabowo Subianto will attend the ceremony in Nusantara, while Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, and Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka, will attend the one held in Jakarta.
The ceremony will still be held in Jakarta considering its important role as the former capital city in supporting the development and advancement of Indonesia.
After the implementation of the 79th Independence Day ceremony in a hybrid manner, the central government plans to hold the Independence Day ceremony in full in Nusantara in 2025.
