Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin accentuated that strengthening corporate governance and digitalization is the key to developing the national Islamic insurance industry.

"Corporate governance must be improved so that services for consumers can be better. Apart from that, community confidence and literacy as well as digitalization are key to expanding the reach," he noted in a statement of the Vice President's Secretariat.

He made the statement while delivering his remarks virtually at the launch event of the new logo of PT Reasuransi Syariah Indonesia (ReINDO Syariah) from the official residence of the vice president in Jakarta on Thursday.

Amin noted that currently, Indonesia is facing various risks due to climate change, economic uncertainty, geopolitical conflicts, and health crises after the COVID-19 pandemic.

"It spotlights the importance of the presence of insurance as protection and risk mitigation measures," he affirmed.

The vice president further highlighted that insurance, especially Islamic insurance, which prioritizes Islamic values by maintaining the principles of risk sharing, fairness, and transparency, has huge potential to be developed and become a choice for the public.

On that occasion, he also highlighted the importance of implementing the spin-off policy for Islamic business units to bolster the sector. Thus, more insurance companies are expected to fully operate in line with Islamic values.

"I ask all stakeholders to play an active role and cooperate in building the Islamic insurance ecosystem that is effective and efficient, healthy, and competitive so that this industry can become a supporter of the national economy," he remarked.

He expressed hope that through ReINDO Syariah, the insurance industry in Indonesia would develop.

"Congratulations on the launch of the ReINDO Syariah logo. Hopefully, ReINDO Syariah can continue to grow and spur the development of the insurance industry, especially Islamic insurance in Indonesia," the vice president remarked.
