Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto affirmed that the Temporary National Data Centre (PDNS) 2 services will fully recover by the end of July 2024.

"Mr President has instructed the public services (provided by PDNS 2 to be returned) back to normal by July 2024," Tjahjanto stated here on Monday, referring to President Joko Widodo.

The minister remarked that the government, primarily the Communication and Informatics Ministry and the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), are carrying out the backup process for the PDNS 2 data, boosted by a "hot site" -- fully operational backup service -- in Batam, Riau Islands.

The coordinating ministry also instructed the development of a multi-layered data protection system for PDNS 2 under direct monitoring from the BSSN, he noted.

"All data center operators will have their backup, ensuring at least three to four layers of backup data, which we will support with another cloud backup system," Tjahjanto added.

The cloud backup, which will accommodate statistical data from every government institution, will help relieve the burden on PDNS, he remarked.

Tjahjanto is optimistic that the government's work as well as the use of a hot site backup system would help the functionality of the PDNS to recover by July-end.

The Communication and Informatics Ministry and BSSN on Monday (June 24) announced having identified 211 government agencies affected by the cyberattack on PDNS 2. However, by Tuesday (June 25), the number increased to 282.

On Wednesday (June 26), some 44 government agencies expressed their readiness to conduct data recovery, while others continued their preparations. As a result, the systems of five agencies recovered following data migration and could continue to serve residents.

Following the cyberattack, Communication and Informatics Minister Budi Arie Setiadi and BSSN Chief Hinsa Siburian were summoned by the parliament on Thursday (June 27).

Apart from indicating that the cyberattack on the PDNS 2 system caused no data leak, Setiadi also confirmed during the meeting with the parliament that the investigation team found no involvement of state actors in the hacking.
