Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and PTPN III agreed to cooperate on the prevention of narcotics abuse in the state plantation company on Wednesday.

PTPN III Risk Management Director Arifin Firdaus stated that a number of employees in his company abused narcotics.

"If this issue is not handled immediately, then it will have an impact on the employees' productivity and the surrounding community," he remarked, as quoted in a statement from the BNN on Thursday.

PTPN III had endeavored to tackle the problem of narcotics abuse by building a rehabilitation house for narcotics abusers. However, this step is inadequate in dealing with the narcotics problem faced by the company, Firdaus said.

He expressed optimism that the BNN would provide the necessary support to the company, such as by conducting early detection through urine tests and holding counseling sessions on the dangers of narcotics for employees.

Other programs include taking action against narcotics couriers or dealers operating around plantations.

BNN Head Marthinus Hukom said that the cooperation encompasses creating a plantation map to eradicate narcotics trafficking and using plantation land managed by PTPN III for alternative development programs.

This includes empowering former narcotics abusers by inviting them to engage in coffee and corn cultivation.
