"We expect (clean) water will be distributed starting July 15," chairman of the ministry's Nusantara Capital City Infrastructure Development Implementation Task Force (IKN), Danis Hidayat Sumadilaga, said here on Friday.
Sumadilaga noted that the commissioning phase for clean water distribution is expected to be carried out on July 10.
"On July 10, we will carry out the commissioning or even sooner," he remarked.
The Attachment to Presidential Regulation Number 63 of 2022 concerning the Details of the Nusantara Capital City Master Plan requires that drinking water management in IKN must meet the drinking water quality standards.
In the first stage, the Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM), which is part of the drinking water infrastructure and facilities, will be focused on meeting domestic and non-domestic water needs. The SPAM facility aims to meet the need for safe drinking water.
To serve the capital city of Nusantara, raw water will be drawn from its source and distributed through a transmission pipeline to the water treatment plant.
From the water treatment plant, clean drinking water will be channeled through transmission pipelines to the main reservoir and then to the gravity-fed distribution network to the serviced areas.
A main reservoir is needed to maintain a balance between drinking water production and consumption and accommodate pipeline maintenance activities.
The technical design for the distribution network must consider several aspects such as the topographic conditions, service coverage, water flow speed and water pressure in the pipes, pressure in the farthest service area, and the water distribution capacity.
