"The tap water at IKN will be drinkable," head of the task force, Danis Sumadilaga, said here on Wednesday.
Water for IKN will be processed in a water treatment plant, and then distributed through pipelines fabricated with food-grade technology, he added.
The water pipes will have food-grade concrete and cement layers to ensure the water remains safe from contamination.
In the city, tap water will be distributed through pipes installed in a multi-utility tunnel (MUT).
If a pipe requires to be repaired or replaced, the technician will need to go to the MUT.
The MUT will be supervised through a control room for damage to pipes and leaks.
Based on Appendix II of Law No. 3 of 2022 concerning the IKN Master Plan, the development of IKN is being undertaken by combining three urban concepts: forest city, sponge city, and smart city.
Nusantara's development is also prioritizing nature, technology, and environmental sustainability by balancing the harmony of natural ecology, human-made environment, and society.
It is also paying attention to the adverse impacts of urbanization and extreme weather that can cause disasters, such as floods and raw water shortages.
On a separate occasion, the Nusantara Capital City Authority (OIKN) said that it will use rainwater to meet the needs for raw water in Nusantara.
With a good management system, rainwater can be put to good use, such as for cooling systems in buildings, groundwater refilling, and other recycling processes.
In addition to rainwater, four dams in Sepaku sub-district and its surrounding areas — which are currently under construction — will serve as water sources to meet the needs of residents at the new capital city.
