Jakarta (ANTARA) - More than one hundred people participated in the Bataknese traditional dance "tortor" competition which was held during the Car Free Day (CFD) on Sudirman Street in Jakarta on Sunday.

"Apart from the tortor dance, we also hold the Bataknese traditional fashion show," the Tortor Dance Project director, Martha Simanjuntak, said here.

At the event, there was also an exhibition of the Batak wedding showcase held by Helaparumaen and Chathaulos. It was part of the Wedding Batak Exhibition that will be mainly held on September 7-8, 2024, at the SMESCO Convention Hall in Jakarta.

Helaparumaen and Chathaulos are two organizations that are known for striving to preserve and promote Batak culture.

Both are committed to providing platforms for the Batak community and the wider community to learn, appreciate, and celebrate Batak culture and traditions.

Sunday's event aimed to promote the rich and diverse Batak culture, providing a platform for young talents to showcase their skills and creativity in Batak traditional fashion and dance.

The fashion show challenged participants to showcase the Batak culture by wearing traditional clothing.

Meanwhile, the tortor dance competition became a stage for young talented dancers.

The event was intended to be more than just a competition, but a way to strengthen friendship and introduce Batak culture to the wider public. It also invited famous Batak influencers and the Batak communities to participate in the event.
