Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) expressed hope that the newly appointed Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof would take the partnership fostered between Indonesia and the Netherlands to the next level.

"Congratulations to Dick Schoof on your appointment as Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. I look forward to deepening our nations' strong and enduring partnership," Jokowi wrote on his X account @jokowi on Monday.

Wilhelmus Maria "Dick" Scoof is a Dutch civil servant and politician who managed to take the seat of the Prime Minister of the Netherlands after being nominated during the 2023-2024 Dutch Cabinet formation process.

The former director-general of General Intelligence and Security Service succeeded Mark Rutte who stepped down from office. Schoof was directly sworn in by the King of the Netherlands Willem-Alexander on July 2, 2024.

Indonesia and the Netherlands have been pursuing strengthened bonds through talks between their leaders.

During a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G20 India on September 9 last year, President Jokowi and ex-PM Rutte discussed the ASEAN-Netherlands partnerships in the fields of development and economy.

On the occasion, the Indonesian head of state expressed optimism that the Netherlands would support Indonesia's keenness to develop low-carbon technology while hoping for the kingdom's assistance in dealing with the EU Deforestation Regulation.

Jokowi then praised the Netherlands for placing capital in the development of a center of excellence in Surakarta, Central Java.

He also made the most of the meeting to seek Rutte's support for Indonesia's accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

The president underlined that Indonesia had taken various steps to reform its economy to conform to OECD's standards.
