Jakarta (ANTARA) - Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo expressed optimism that Indonesian athletes who qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics can chart a new history in medal acquisition for the country.

"There are so many athletes that are qualifying for the Olympics for the first time. They are expected to bring results that can make a new history," Ariotedjo remarked on the ministry's official website here on Tuesday.

The minister affirmed that 29 Indonesian athletes are set to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics while highlighting that this number is the highest recorded in the last two decades.

Ariotedjo remarked that the number of athletes qualifying for the Paris Olympics increases Indonesia's prospects of clinching several medals and making new history in the prestigious event.

"I hope that a sweet history will be created to make the Indonesian nation proud at the world level," he stated.

Meanwhile, the minister highlighted that preparations of the Indonesian contingent had so far reached 80 percent.

The remaining preparations include departure, administration, and adaptation on the field for athletes.

Ariotedjo sought support and prayers from all Indonesians so that preparations of Indonesia's contingent could run smoothly and the athletes could clock brilliant achievements at the Paris Olympics.
