Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - Acting governor of West Java, Bey Triadi Machmudin, has said that co-operatives have a strategic role in accelerating the nation's efforts to exit the middle-income trap.

Therefore, the 77th National Co-operative Day provincial-level celebration in Karawang district, West Java, on Friday, must serve as momentum to boost co-operatives' role in advancing Indonesia, he added.

"This is where the role of co-operatives is very important to complement the people's business ecosystem so that they can grow from micro businesses to small businesses and then small to medium businesses," Machmudin said, according to a statement released the same day.

He highlighted that co-operatives have a solution in micro-financing, which is accessible to many households in Indonesia.

"Co-operatives are strategic in consolidating micro and small business actors so that their businesses have more quality and high economic value," Machmudin added.

He said that co-operatives have transformed into entities that provide solutions and certainty in product purchases, access to innovation and technology, partnerships, and financial resources.

He expressed the hope that the number of co-operatives providing technology and innovative solutions would grow, so that it can support young people's business ecosystem.

"I hope that the spirit of co-operatives can continue to transmit to the younger generation and make the business ecosystem more promising for young people," the acting governor said.

According to him, the higher the number of co-operatives providing innovative solutions and expanding partnerships, markets, and financial resources, the more and faster small businesses in the country will upgrade.

In addition to attending the National Co-operative Day commemoration in Karawang, Machmudin also opened the Co-operative Product Exhibition.

He also signed an agreement on the "Synergy of Co-operatives' Empowerment and Development through Ultra-Micro Financing in West Java."
