A total of Rp5 trillion (around US$307 million) has been budgeted by the government to restore houses and buildings damaged by the 2022 earthquake in Cianjur.
"The use of these funds will be checked. All government-disbursed funds must be used responsibly," Suharyanto emphasized in a statement on Saturday.
He clarified that while people have the freedom to use the funds independently to rebuild their houses, they must adhere to established guidelines.
"For example, those receiving Rp60 million should not build a house using only Rp30 million and divert the remaining funds for other purposes. We are monitoring the utilization of these funds closely," he stated.
The BNPB chief revealed that the government has already disbursed the funds in four stages, and the agency has rebuilt a total of 62,105 houses within the first three disbursement stages.
For the final stage, the government plans to disburse Rp818.5 billion ($50.2 million) to aid repairs and reconstructions of 36,285 houses.
The breakdown of allocated funds is Rp60 million ($3,710) for severely damaged houses, Rp30 million for moderately damaged houses, and Rp15 million for houses with minor damages.
In the initial phase of the final disbursement, the BNPB has distributed funds for repairs and restorations of 1,107 houses.
Suharyanto urged residents to ensure their hired contractors are performing the work correctly and to report any issues with workers to the police immediately.
