"The construction of permanent houses is one of the efforts to relocate people to a safer area," said Iwan Suprijanto, the ministry's Director General of Housing, on Sunday.
He said that the government continues its efforts to promptly relocate residents to permanent housing.
Phase 3 of the permanent house construction project in Babakan Karet Village, Cianjur, West Java, has so far reached 96.05 percent.
To ensure the construction runs smoothly, the Java II Housing Provision Implementation Center (BP2P) of the Directorate General of Housing continues to coordinate with the Cianjur district government.
"We are also using earthquake-resistant house construction technology to anticipate if natural disasters occur one day," Suprijanto remarked.
The house construction is carried out by state-owned construction company PT Brantas Abipraya on 27.4 hectares of land. The area covers seven housing blocks, a community center, a musalla, a reservoir, a gate, a security post, and a waste management site.
The project manager of phase 3 house construction from Brantas Abipraya, Lutfi Setyowibowo, stated that his team had completed the landscape of the housing area by the second week of January.
The company is also accelerating the construction of infrastructure and facilities, such as neighborhood streets and drainage.
To make the housing area green, the company is planting plants such as tabebuias or trumpet trees, bougainvilleas, and lipstick palms (Cyrtostachys renda). The streetlights in the area will also use solar panels.
Earlier in 2023, the ministry completed the two phases of the housing construction project for the victims of the earthquake that hit Cianjur in November 2022.
In total, 200 permanent houses were constructed in the first phase, while 151 units were built in the second phase.
