"Purba and other poets can combine all efforts, and use poetry as a medium to increase public awareness of the environment," Hendropriyono said while attending the launch of the poetry book Monolog Hujan or the Rain Monologue by poet Frans Ekodhanto Purba here on Saturday.
In his poetry book, Purba relates his worries about exploitative dredging, and expresses the hope that it will encourage the community to increase their concern for the environment.
"Some poems in Purba's book include elements about nature, which can motivate fellow artists or poets to increase public awareness. This problem should not be taken lightly," Hendropriyono said.
According to him, through poetry and literature, poets can increase people's sensitivity to the environment, whose protection is an existentialism problem, which, if not discussed, would threaten the nation's future.
"This is an existentialism problem, if it is not discussed, we will not achieve the Golden Indonesia 2045 dream," he said.
For instance, he pointed out, if the waste problem is not solved as people do not pay attention to it, there will be no proper place to live in the next decade.
Through Monolog Hujan, Purba aims to increase environmental awareness, especially for those living in urban areas, and those who have started to misunderstand good civilization with the progress of time, climate change, and technological developments.
Through his work, he is seeking to contribute to improving the culture of reading in the community, which has begun to decline.
"Hopefully, the reading culture in this country can be revived, because for me, if the reading culture revives, Golden Indonesia, or the dream of becoming a developed nation, can be achieved," he said.
