Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin checked out one of the cars exhibited at the 2024 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) in Tangerang, Banten, on Thursday.

After delivering a speech, Amin toured the exhibition in a buggy car and stopped at the PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) booth to check out the Kijang Innova Zenix Hybrid.

He sat in the driver's seat and took a look at the vehicle's interior, while TAM vice president Henry Tanoto detailed the car's specifications.

Earlier, while delivering his speech, Amin said that the national automotive industry needs to be strengthened in terms of capacity and added value so that it can compete with other countries.

One of the efforts is continuing to adopt green technology, he said.

"The automotive industry needs to be more adaptive in increasing public awareness of the environment through the development of environmentally friendly automotive technology, such as electric vehicles," Amin stated.

Indonesia needs to continue to pursue efforts to build an independent automotive industry, starting from the production of raw materials to the assembly and supporting industries, he added.

"The capacity of the national automotive industry needs to be improved, so not only can it meet domestic needs but also the global market," Amin said.

The GIIAS, which is being held from July 18 to 28, is one of the largest automotive exhibitions, according to Yohannes Nangoi, the chairperson of the Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (Gaikindo).

More than 55 automotive brands and more than 120 automotive supporting industry brands are participating in the exhibition.
